Parshas Tzav
DVAR TORAH
1) We are told in this weeks Parsha that the Korban Olah (burnt offering) and the Korban Chattas (sin offering) were to be slaughtered in the same place. The Yerushalmi in Yevamos says this was done in order to protect the ones who sinned from embarrassment, because people would not know who was in that place for the bringing of the Olah and who was there for bringing a Chattas. What an important leson! How careful we must be to save others from shame an embarrasment!!
2) Right at the start of the Parsha, H-Shem tells Moshe to 'command' Ahron an his sons about the Olah offering. Rashi on this Pasuk notes that the word 'command' means doing things quickly with Zerizus - doing them right away after hearing the command.
Q: What is the connection between "Command", and the action being carried out with Zerizus?
A: There is a rule that one gets more reward for doing something that he is commanded to do than doing something that he was not commanded to do. This is because the minute one is commanded to do something, the Yetzer Harah quickly springs into action and tries to pull one back and prevent the person from doing the mitzvah. Therefore, there is more struggle to fulfill a commandment, and that is why we are given more reward. This is why Rashi says that 'command' connotes Zerizus, for once the command was passed to Aharon, he knew that the Yetzer Hara would attempt to hold back from fulfilling that command, and therefore he jumped up and worked on fulfilling it as speedily as possible, with tremendous Zerizus, so as not to give the Yetzer Hara an opening.
STORY
One time a talmid brought his 6 year old son to Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel zt"l For a Bracha. After the Rosh Yeshiva had blessed him per the father's request, he turned to the child and said "Now it your turn to give ME a brocha!" At first the child was reluctant, but finally he summoned up the courage, and with eyes closed firmly with extreme concentration, he turned to the Rav Nosson Tzvi and said, "The Rosh Yeshiva should grow up to be a big Talmid Chacham". Rav Nosson Tzvi had a smile on his face for the rest of the day.
